Lifejackets
Lifejackets are a key safety feature in recreational water-based activities. It's important that each person has an approved lifejacket for the activity and conditions that they are in.
Project goals
To encourage the boating community to wear lifejackets especially in small craft
To educate the boating public on the need to check and service inflatable lifejackets
To provide the boating public with resources and tools that promote the regular check and service inflatable lifejackets

Key messages
The most common cause of boating fatalities is drowning, and the majority of fatalities involve people who were not wearing a lifejacket. 8 out of 10 people who drown when boating did so not wearing a lifejacket.
Promote wearing, pre-wear checks, routine maintenance and servicing in accordance to the manufacturer’s instructions and promote wearability of modern styles
Wear a lifejacket at all times especially in small craft (under 6m)
Promote the “International Lifejacket Wear Principles”
Promote a national “Wear a lifejacket to work” day
