To promote the carriage of GPS beacons within the marine environment and the requirement to update registration every two years
To limit the number of non-compliance with the requirement to carry proof of beacon registration
To promote the correct storage of beacons to prevent misuse of beacons, which result in inadvertent alerts
To limit the number of beacons that have been incorrectly disposed of, which can result in the inadvertent activation of the SAR system
